Sarah Wilson

Meet Sarah

Sarah L Wilson is an artist that lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Originally a painter working in oil and encaustic techniques, she also uses traditional designs to inform patterns and colors of her mixed media and jewelry making. Sarah graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in 2010 with a BFA in painting and loves exploring how color, pattern, technology, and traditional techniques influence and inform each other. Aside from attending artist markets, her jewelry is mostly sold online on her website or for paintings she takes commission-based custom orders.

For this series, I took Native beadwork designs, and paired them with backgrounds of many colors and patterns.

It started with Celtic designs as there is a great history with the Choctaw Nation and with Ireland but escalated to my own color pallet and a few other floral designs.

This is a series of about 100 pairs, I just couldn’t stop myself from being fascinated by the way the designs and colors worked with each other.

Color pairing that changes the way we see the object as a whole, has always been a passion of mine.
